This week's Technique Lovers Challenge is.....Dryer Sheets!
So, go start some laundry and save those used dryer sheets.....

Here is some inspiration for you, and then I'll tell you how.
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

There are at least three things you can do with a used dryer sheet...
1) stamp an image on cardstock. Take that dryer sheet and iron it lightly if need be to get it smooth and flat. Using a xyron, spray adhesive or a glue stick, adhere right over the top of your stamped image. Trim the edges of the dryer sheet even with the stamped piece or fold the dryer sheet around to the back and adhere. I have heard that you can sprinkle glittler on top of the dryer sheet and some will adhere through the tiny holes in the dryer sheet.
2) stamp directly onto the dryer sheet and use as a layer.
3) use the dryer sheet as a substitute for mulberry paper. You can use it as is, brayer it to color it, or dye the dryer sheet with a few drops of reinker in a plastic baggie.

I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Please put TLC26 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:
http://forums.splitcoaststampers.co...ead.php?t=39488

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

*** Personal Note: Sorry I am posting so very late today. My mom closed on her new house today and I have been with her all day. She is moving into a house literally around the corner from me...just 6 houses away! Some of you may know that my family and I just moved ourselves in late May. We barely had time to 'recover' so to speak, when Mom's house came on the market and we decided that it was the perfect opportunity for all of us. My parent's neighborhood (my childhood home) is not what it used to be, and they have been planning on moving out for years, but never really got around to it. After my dad died suddenly this past Dec, I was determined to got Mom out of that house and closer to me....we were now 40 minutes apart after we moved in May. Anyway, I have been helping her for the last month go thru her house and 30+ years of 'stuff'. I am exhausted with all the details and changes since May and really since January! Starting next week after she gets all moved in, I am hoping that my life gets back to 'normal' and I will have time to stamp, stamp, stamp like I used to before May!
Thanks for your patience with my late TLC posting, and thanks for listening!

Glad to hear that things are coming together!

Thanks for posting the challenge despite your busy-ness, although I never use dryer sheets, so I'll just be watching what others come up with.

Hey, it just so happens I posted a card this weekend that I used a dryer sheet on; I used it as "faux mulberry"; here it is;

I'll try to do another this week.

Beth - so glad everything is working as planned with your mom's move. I know how busy and stressed you are. I was worried about you today, but should have realized that this is what was up.

Thanks for posting the challenge. Unfortunately I recently started using liquid Downey and just ran out of dryer sheets. Darn it!

Thanks for posting. I will try it if it can be done without that "ironing" thing you mentioned. What is that anyway? This is starting to sound a lot like HOUSEWORK and I don't like that! lol

Beth....I can't imagine going through all 30+ years of memories with your mom. It must have been interesting but exhausting. I don't look forward to doing that myself someday. Glad you're all getting settled. You shouldn't feel the need to apologize, though. You are entitled to have a life outside of SCS! ;)

I will definitely try this tomorrow as it's something I've wanted to try ever since I saw JanTink's wonderful snowflake card. I've actually been saving up used dryer sheets. I must be a real sicko!

Mannn, I am allergic to the scented stuff in dryer sheets so I do not use them. Can I use unused ones? I am ready to rush to the store to by some this is a great looking idea!

I am glad your mom gets the opportunity to move close to you! It is so great!

I have the same problem, but Bounce FREE doesn't bother me. Have you ever tried that?

I have never been so motivated to do laundry before. . .can't wait to hear that dryer buzz so I can get a fresh sheet for STAMPIN'! (yeah, right!)

I did a dryer sheet card a while back - one of my favorites. Maybe I'll do another one today! Thanks Beth - so glad to hear that your family is settling in nicely!

I do not do dryer sheets, but maybe I can "borrow" a few used ones?!? A great technique idea.
So glad your mom is almost moved in and your life can settle down to a more "normal" pace. Thanks for your efforts even when you are swamped! Nancy

OK, so this was not at all what I'd envisioned for this card. Somehow, I mismeasured the dryer sheet layer and it was way too wide, so I wrapped it around the spine of the card instead. I don't know if I like it, but here it is :p

I just love this technique! Unfortunately, I don't have internet at home right now, so I won't be able to upload anything until next week, but here's some that are in my gallery:

I got a chance to participate this time! Yay! Here's mine:

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I tried using my Xyron (it wrinkled the dryer sheet), tried a glue stick (I could see the glue under the sheet) and didn't have any spray adhesive, so I opted for the Faux Mulberry. (pending 8:45 pm est)

Default Another use for dryer sheets

I really should go to bed right now, but I have to give this a try. I thought that I would post another little tip for used dryer sheets. We have all had those nasty casserole dishes that you spend way too much of your possible stamping time scrubbing. Anyway, instead of scrubbing just throw a dryer (used of new) in the dish full of water. Let it sit for a couple of hours or so and then dump the nasty gunk out and wash as normal. It is really easy and saves a lot of "elbow grease".

Thanks Beth for doing this while you've been so busy; we appreciate you!

I combined mine with the color challenge for the week; made "faux mulberry" from my used, dyed, ripped dryer sheet!

I tried it and had a little trouble with adhering the sheet to the cardstock but it worked out. I had to pick up some dryer sheets since we don't use them in our house. So now I have to decided if they are worth saving for cards or use in the dryer! They do smell nice.

Here's my attempt!
