Default Question about junior legal pads?

I love the covered legal pads that you very talented ladies have been creating. I would love to try it but have a few questions...

Junior legal pads don't have "covers" to attach to so how does the front cover attach to the pad? And so once attached is the front cover reinforced with matboard or is it just cardstock?

I would love to see a picture of one of these open if anyone has one too.

Hope these questions make sense

Thanks in advance. I hope to make a few of these for a baby shower party favor.

-Angie

I would also like to say "Thanks!!!" to everyone for the inspiration.

Well, there are several different way to do these. The way I do them is like a tri-fold flyer. The note pad is centered on the middle section and then the right side, then the left side fold up. I attach a smaller piece of cardstock to the front and use a velcro dot to hold the cover closed. Here's a link to the picture of my sample:

If that doesn't take you right to it, go to the gallery and search for jr legal pads.

I'm also attaching the directions I wrote. Hope this helps!

I am a diagram girl; I can't do anything from written instructions! I need pictures of how the unassembled pieces look, and measurements, etc.!

Because of this, I was told I'd make a good mechanic. Ugh.

If I can make it work, I'll attach the diagram I made for my customers; if not, please email me direct and I'll try to attach and send it that way.

Thank you so much ladies -- y'all are awesome as usual.

My questions were about the type with the crimped paper at the top but I
think these two methods will work great.

I found some pretty inexpensive pads at a office supply store so I'm gonna try the pad and pen combination.

Thanks for all the help and inspiration!

I make the kind with the crimped paper at the top.

I just use cardstock covers, don't reinforce with matboard. I have a base piece of cardstock that measures 5 3/16" x 10". I score it so it folds over the top. It only goes down about 1 3/4" on the back. I also make a score line so the front folds up at the top of the paper-so it still covers the binding on the pad. The crimped part measures 5 3/16 x 4 inches.

Then, I just decorate the front however I want. I use double-sided tape to hold the cover and crimped parts on and have had no problem with it coming unstuck.

This is a web site I would love to share with you. If you look at the instructions sheet titled note pad cover (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called), you will find good intructions and diagrams. I have printed out these instructions and made a few of these note pads as gifts for bingo prizes at church, they make a nice gift with a matching pen. I hope this is what you are looking for.

I made these about 4 years ago for a craft fair. Once you get going they work up really fast! I also made matching post-it notes and sold a ton of sets - one of each packaged together - for $10 a pop.

Funny, I went through a brain fart at one point and made several of the notepads backwards, so the cover opened left to right instead. You know, I labeled these as "at last, pads for lefties" and sold several! It was too funny...

Have fun!

I just purchased 24 of these babies for less than $5 today at Costco. Just thought I would share this good find.

Default COLORED PADS

I found that on www.viking.com you can buy one dozen colored jr legal pads for 9.98. It is four times as much as the yellow ones listed above but I thought they would look nice in the covers!!! They come in 3 grey, 3 blue, 2 orchid, 2 pink, and 2 ivory. At 83 cents each it is still a cheap gift option! Just thought I would pass along my early morning find. I am six weeks from delivering my second angel into this world and waking at three in the morning allows for lots of time to find fun deals...lost sleep, gained quiet time...it depends on how you look at it!
Hope you all slept well!

Default Jr. Legal Notebooks

Office Max has the jr. legal notebooks on sale this week, 50% off (at least the one in my city does). I got a 4 pk of Mead Cambridge of $1 a pk. Lol I bought most of them and had 2 pks cut in half for the cute decorated list pads I saw on this site (thanks whoever came up with that idea!). Just thought I'd share the bargain with you all.

Default Jr legal pads

If you don't mind yellow, Walmart always has them for under $4...that's for 10 pads.

Default Jr. Legal pads

karixma - I got them cut right at Office Max, back where they spiral bind (that was the other trip to Office Max, getting my catty bound, love it!), laminate, copy things, etc. They charge about $2 dollars to cut them (that was 8 pads for me), but it's worth it, no mess and nice straight cuts.

And where's the best place to get magnets for those shopping list pads? Also, do the jr. legal pads have a line down the left side? I'm wondering how it would look with the line down the middle if I cut them in half!

For the magnets, I'm guessing any semi-strong magnet will work, lol I hadn't even thought about adding one, thanks for the reminder.

Here's a sample from this site, it's what got me wanting to do list size pads. I don't think the line detracts from it's cuteness. If you are worried about the line though, work it into your design. As an example, you could use Groovy Lines as the backgrounds on the toppers.

Okay I'm really not a ding dong but I have a question regarding the instructions that have been posted.

When it says to glue for example flap C to the back of the notepad, does that mean the actual card board part or the last sheet of the actual pad?

TIA...

I would have bought one - I STILL flip spiral notepads upside down so the spiral is on my right. I used to decorate the front covers in junior & high school with sticky paper & markers.

Love these directions; off to make one!

You guys are great. Everyday I log in I find another thing, template, suggestion, or comment that is a help to me. As a new demo this is wonderful. I have found ideas that allow my demonstrations to be a cut above, not just cards. This really shows the versatility of the stamps, and the creativity of all of you wonderful ladies.

Thanks

Just a quick FYI--If you ever need to do alot of these and don't feel like doing the cutting, I sell a pre-cut pre-scored cover for the jr. legal pad in 4 colors: white, cream, confetti tan & confetti navy. You can see them at:
