Default Scrolling Left to Right

Is everybody else having to scroll left to right to read the message?
My screen does not show the entire width of the post.

I'm usually pretty computer literate for the average non-techie, but I didn't know if there was a way to correct that.

Lisa

LOVING that you can see the beginning of the posted text as you hover over the subject!

Thanks for all your hard work!!!

Go full screen - that will probably work for you.

Same problem here, I think we were posting at the same time because I had started a new thread on the same thing. Sorry about that! I still need an answer also. My monitor is tiny and it's already at full screen and I still have to do the whole left/right scrolling.

I figured out a solution - at least a temporary one. At the top of the thread, click on thread tools and then choose "show printable version."

Maybe try changing your desktop settings? I have mine set to 1152 x 8645 pixels. Plenty of room for multiple windows. ;)

I am having to scroll left to right to read whole message also... I didnt have that problem with the old forum, so I dont believe it is my settings.
This is great so far except for the left to right scroll.
Thanks

Me too! I've experienced this before on the old server
but only occasionally. I'm also on "full screen" but
don't know about that desktop settings thing as I'm
on Apple Mac (or maybe I'm just not very clever).
Perhaps we could persuade everyone to put lots of
returns in, like I'm doing now?

But I LOVE the little preview balloons - saves SO
much time!!!

Jenn is right...you need to adjust your monitor settings. They need to be at least 1024x768. Here are the instructions:

Windows 95/98/NT/XP/2000

From the Start menu, select Settings >> Control Panel. In the Control Panel folder, open the Display icon. From the Display Properties dialog box:
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • Move the Desktop Area slider to 1024 by 768 pixels or larger.
  • Click Apply to confirm this setting.
Macintosh OS X

From the Apple menu select System Preferences....
  • From the hardware group select the Displays icon.
  • Select the Display group button in the upper center.
  • In the Resolutions list select 1024 by 768 or larger.
  • Click on the Red X bubble on the upper left corner to dismiss this window.
Macintosh OS 9
  • From the Apple menu select Control Panels >> Monitors or Monitors & Sound.
  • In the Resolution list select 1024 by 768 or larger.
  • Click the Close Box to dismiss the window.

as I said on the other thread, give me your computer info: os & version, what browser you're using (and version). I'm thinking (hoping) that maybe you just need a newer browser.

Sorry - I wasn't reading the other thread.

I'm having the same problem both from work and home.

Home I have a Gateway laptop and use MS Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 with Windows 98.

At work I think I have an IBM - it's fairly new. Not sure what browser, I'd have to check that when I go back tomorrow. And I think Windows XP.

scrollingleft to right.

I changed my settings so this can fit but then I cannot read it. I have to have my computer settings on 800 x 600. Otherwise it is truly way to small for me to read. Help! I do not want to give this site up due to not being able to read or having to scroll right to left for every sentence. The old format worked fine so there must be an adjustment for this to fit on our screens. Otherwise, I too love all the other changes,,especially the part about when a post was put through "21 minutes ago" etc.

What Jenn suggested here worked for me. Unfortunately, I think I'll have to wear reading glasses to actually see what's ON the screen now! But it does work in Windows XP anyway. :-D

Thanks, Stephanie. I tried the Windows suggestion, but I can't handle that small print. It drives me crazy (my husband gets so mad at me). Are there any other options, other than using the "Show Printable Version" option in the Thread Tools? Linda

This sounds like a frame size problem with the template. I have the same problem but only when viewing threads. No scrolling is necessary for the Forum home page, the 'Reply to Thread' page, or the New Posts listing page.

My OS is Win XP Pro; IE is 6.0.2900, display sized at 1024 x768.

Here's something else to try that may help with the small print (this is how I fixed mine)...

In your browser (I have IE6 so not sure if this is the same in others) click on tools/internet options/accessibility. Put a check mark in "ignore font sizes specified on web pages" Click OK

yeah, bag the browser-version theory, that's obviously not it. and setting your screen resolution higher is a bit of a work-around but certainly not a fix.

Sigh, I don't like changing my settings for my monitor, it makes everything so small for me that i can't see it well enough.

oh well, guess i will have to deal with it so that i don't have to scroll everytime to read the message.

"They need to be at least 1024x768"

I tried that and my screen becomes distorted (concave/convex-one of them)

Me neither. I switched my resolution size and was all excited because that worked, but 5 minutes later I had a headache because of the tiny print and I had to switch it back. So I'm still looking for a solution for this "scrolling left to right" problem.

I changed my explorer options under accessability (I have the same version) but it made my fonts bigger instead of smaller.

I found this online:
http://www.pegaweb.com/articles/screen-resolution.htm
So maybe it's not something we have to change on our computers but something Splitcoast has to fix in the way the site is setup. That's my guess anyhow. I hope they can fix it.

I'm not giving up - I'm sure it's just something that needs corrected and they'll eventually figure it out.

And once they do, I'll be signing up for the Fan Club as a thank you for all their hard work.

I'm having the left/right scrolling issues also.

I can ususally change the font on my screen by hitting CTRL and spinning the ball on the mouse.

whenever I try that on this site, the font changes, but only on the yellow banner at the top. Everything else stays the same.

Strange.

all threads....

I'm restricted at work with what I can do, so I wasn't able to just past the print screen here, but I've attached a pdf. Hope this helps.

Hmm, no attachment. I'll have to try again.

I was having the same problem on all posts. I did what Stephanie said and changed the pixels on my screen, then did the accessibility/font thing and that made it all work just fine. It's big now and no scrolling. I have Windows 98 and am using IE 6.0 (I think).

Aha!

The pdf was too large.

I was finally able to save it as a gif and resize it. Hope you can at least see what I'm talking about.
