so I received a pollished stone card in a swap and the person who made it isn't returning my e-mails........
and I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction if I have it wrong.
so you use re inkers, glossy card stock and 90 proof rubbing alcahol.
1] do you drip re inkers directly on the cs
2] do you dip a cotton ball in alcahol then dab at ink spots, one color at a time?
3] repete untill cs is covered?
 thank for any help

I dab a cottonball in alcohol then put 3-4 drops of ink on it, and start dabbing! It might take a couple tries to figure out how much alcohol to use. I found that putting the drops right on the cardstock doesn't work for me.
Also, I found a great product from Seaside Stampin' Ink at a convention. It's a kit ($12) that comes with 7 fine mist sprayers, a wood block with velcro on it, and felt. You put alcohol in one of the bottles and generously spray your glossy cardstock. Felt goes on the velcro with some drops, and away you go! It's a lot less messy than cottonballs. Hope this helps!

If you're using a metallic reinker (to get the veining effect) you apply it directly to the cardstock, then drip a few drops of dye reinkers onto a rubbing-alcohol-dampened cotton ball and then tap that onto the cardstock until it's covered. I usually use two colors of reinkers together, for a total of 6 drops per cotton ball. Depending on the size of the cardstock, you may need more than one cotton ball, and the wetter the cotton ball, the more the ink will spread (and thus thin out). You can use any pigment ink directly on the cardstock for a veiny effect, but it works better with metallics. I'm pretty sure you need DYE ink for the cotton-ball part, because the alcohol reacts differently with the thicker, pigment ink, but I haven't tried it, so I can't say for sure. (Ditto for chalk inks.)
Hope that helps!
I've done polished stone. Allthough I've used cotton balls, I sometimes find they leave some fuzzy stuff behind. Try using a small piece of felt, enough to cover a small block of wood. You can tape it on, hold it on or I recently saw someone use velcro to stick it on. I didn't have any handy small blocks of wood but ended up using the back flat side of a dollar store stamp I didn't like.
Now you can either put a few drops of color ink directly on the glossy paper along with some drops from a Krylon pen OR I have had good luck putting just a drop or 2 right onto the felt piece. Now smoosh away. The Ranger alcohol inks work really well along with their Blender solution. I have used some SU colors too. To get a more saturated look I then dab a cotton ball with alcohol over it. You want the kyrlon to look marbled.
Thanks everyone now that I'm informed I will give it a try. one more question all the stores I've checked I can only find 87% alcohol, where do you get the 90%?

Hi, Dawn! I've done this a lot on glossy cardstock and vellum. I use alcohol inks that I put onto felt that is on velco on an old handled stamp (you know, like the ones that are for the old "PAID" stamps). I have put up to three different colors at a time on the felt. You can pounce the colors on until they color the paper and leave it at that or you can spritz it with more alcohol after you are done. Each way given a different effect. You can also put five or six dabs of 24 leaf gold pen on the cardstock before you start. When you spritz it with the alcohol, after you are done pouncing the color on, the gold will spread around and looks really great. The more you pounce your colors the more mixed they get so you have to watch that you don't do it too much or your colors will get muddy.

I have had a lot of success with plain old cotton balls, reinkers and common old rubbing alcohol. I just used the alcohol that was in the bathroom cupboard and it works fine. If you use metallic reinkers on the card stock you may need to heat dry or use a fixative once done.
I also have the kit from Seaside Stamping. The misters are perfect and they come with instructions on how to use them with different "fillers" (i.e. water, alcohol, oil, floor polish, etc.). The people that run the store are VERY VERY nice too and are always willing to help with questions. Using the wood block and felt that comes with the kit is A LOT less messy than cotton balls, that's all i will use now for polished stone! I think the 87% alcohol will still work, you just need a very high percentage (not the normal 70% that you usually find). I always hit mine with a heat gun too, especially when using metallic inks are they can take awhile to dry.
