Hi everyone! I am new to stamping and was wondering if someone could tell me how stamp-a-ma-jigs work? Would you recommend getting one? I like things straight and orderly so I am thinking I *need* this! ;-) Thanks for your help!
You will love a stamp-a-ma-jig. It's one of the most helpful tools I own. It makes it possible to place any stamped image exactly where you want it. You can layer an image so perfectly you could correct a missed spot. They come with good instructions, which will make sense when you have the tool in front of you. You'll be surprised just how easy it is to get things perfect every time.

Mine is what kept me from getting rid of my Terrific Tulips set out of frustration! No matter what I did, even though the images were mounted near the edge of the block, I could NOT get the pieces to line up! I consider this tool a must-have as it will save you hours of frustration, not to mention wasted cardstock when you have to toss it because you messed up on both sides!

You asked how it works -
* you set the clear plastic in the corner of the "handle"
* Stamp your image on the clear plastic - with the stamp nestled right in the corner of the "handle"
* Take your clear plastic (with the image) and put it on your card or page exactly where you want the image to be stamped.
* Line the plastic "handle" up along the corner of the clear piece, remove the clear piece
* Stamp your image with the stamp nestled in the corner of the plastic piece.
Your stamped image ends up exactly where you wanted it.
I love mine so much that I make permanent templates for every two stamp set I have as well as all my words. I use StaZon to stamp them and store them in the box with the stamp set. What a time saver! At first, I was very frustated with all that cleaning off and restamping! No more. Now it is one of my favorite tools.

Lynn,
I love your idea. There are some stamps that I often use the stamp-a-ma- jig on so this will be a great help.

This is a great idea (especially since I just ordered a set of replacement sheets)! Do you have to use StaZon or will the basic black SU pad ink work?
If you find yourself needing a Stamp-a-ma-Jig replacement sheet and can't put your hands on one, try a piece of vellum. (It will hold you over until your order arrives) It's amazing!
As a scrapper with A/R tendencies, I can't stamp a title bar without it...okay, well, now with Alphadots and Collage Alphabet I can. But before that I couldn't!!!! One of my customers uses Staz-On and Acetate Sheets to do every alphabet she owns...very similar concept to allee's.
And BTW - remember that *every* permanent Stamp-A-Ma-Jig / Staz-On-Sheet will be set-specific...can't use your sheets with another demo's set. (Actually had a non-customer call me asking why *her* set didn't match up with her friend's sheets...the one who makes them that I mentioned above? Yeah...30 minutes of explaining *why* to that rocket scientist....)

I also love mine. I know some stampers like to use the permanent ink and then keep the image, but I don't do that. I use a dark color SU ink, but not black, and it wipes off with a baby wipe, so the same sheet is reusable hundreds of times. This works better for me.

Wow, that's ingenious. I never really even considered one, but now that I know how it works, it's a must-have!
My must-have list is way too long.

Wow, this is great. I think I have to put this one my wish list now. I thought it worked differently but it seems really useful. Thanks again.
Having read all the reply's I think this must me my next puchase, have to get in touch with my friend in the US.
Tracey, I got one over here made by PSX, but you should be able to get them from most craft shops. I have seen SU one and I think this one is better, the handle is clear, kind of like a big L and it comes with a clear plastic sheet that you stamp and wipe.
Any problems getting one and I will look online for you.
I know PSX have stopped trading, but shops should have a stock of them.
Cut overhead transparencies to the size of the clear plastic. Place the transparency on top of the plastic piece. Stamp on them with permanent ink. You can create one or two for each of your stamp sets (depending on how many stamps), and store them in the box with your stamps. This way you have an inexpensive permanent template for each of your stamp sets.
Great insight! I was thinking of getting it too....so I think my next order will have it on there! You gals are all so great to give us newbies such great advice! The hgtv site was great too!

Thanks WeimFamily for explaining how the Stamp-a-ma-jigs work!!!!! I could never figure out why people would spend money on it.... my Demo wasn't sure how it worked and we figured it was critical to mount all your stamps perfectly - which is impossible.... now that I know how it works, I MUST have one!!! I think I'll finally be able to make good use out of my alphabet sets!!!
I have seen both kinds of Stamp-a-ma-jigs - the clear 'L' shaped one and the 'T' shaped one like SU sellsl - which is better and why - or doesn't it matter? I have really enjoyed hearlng about this tool on the thread and now I want one -
For those of you who are not demonstrators: Michaels sells the exact same tool. With a coupon and no shipping, it's a lot less expensive. That way you have more $$$$ for stamps, ink, and CS!

Love mine now that I got to use it. It's soooo nice to be able to line up those accessories in the back of the Loads Of Love truck! I seldom am that picky, but for things like that, well, the dogs would be flying in the air if I didn't use it.
