Talking Stamping on clothes how to!!!! Read here for an explanation...

Here is a post of what I did yesterday
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Ok, now, SUPER EASY!
As for what I used,
STAMP A MA JIG!!!!!! That is the only way to do this well....each image is stamped atleast five times, some EIGHT times!!!
Ok so for what medium I used.....
cheapo acrylic craft paint you know the kind you can get on sale two or four for a dollar at Michaels....
AND
Fabric Medium....that is the KEY here...it makes the paint PERMANENT

Ok for how to....

Mix your paint colors to the shades you want...ADD THE MEDIUM and mix well!
Take a sponge brush...you know those kind of rectangular foam brushes things you can get on sale for ten or twenty for a dollar at Michaels? THOSE...
Get some paint on it and let the paint saturate the foam you don't want it all to be sitting on top because then it is too messy.
Stamp your image where you want it and HEAT SET IT with your heat tool
Then using your STAMP A MA JIG repaint the stamp and restamp your image until you have the right coverage and color you are looking for... HEAT SET IT!
What I did was use the heat tool between each different image, like the red flower, the pink in the middle and the green leaves, that way there was no possibility of smudges or smears.
Now what I suggest, even though you have already heat set it, is to toss it in the dryer for a little while to REALLY REALLY SET IT.
I have stamped undies of Elliotts when he first started going on the big boy potty and they are still fine, and any of you who have been around newly potty trained kids know, those undies get washed and washed and washed....
So there you have it!!! I am glad you all liked them as much as I did!!!!!

That is so cute! What a great way to dress up "plain" clothes! I stamped a onesie years ago for my niece, and it was fun to do! I hadn't thought about this for my kids...must get out the paint and the fabric medium again!TFS!

Sereikastamper, thanks for the instructions!! I will be stamping a shirt for my son's birthday in a few weeks and I think that your stamp-a-ma-jig technique will make all the difference. The only thing I will try different is to use the pre-mixed fabric paint. I won't have as many color choices, but for what I will be doing it will be fine. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for sharing!!

Take care, Brenda

Thanks so much for sharing the instructions. The outfit you made is totally cute!!

Here's my question. Do you think it would work to only buy white paint and use reinkers to color it?

We could have matching ink, paper AND clothes

Sereikastamper inspired me. I just realized that my daughter doesn't have a 4th of July shirt. But we had a plain T in the house and I had acrylic paints & textile medium. So I made her a shirt. It was fun. But the worst part was cleaning the paint off the stamps. I forgot how many crevices Paint Prints have...

A friend of mine stamped a plain white shirt using the craft ink and it came out great - even after many washings the image is still there....slightly faded a bit but still there

Smile

Also keep an old wet cloth on a plate near your table and just rest the stamps on there when you are not using them and you can clean it much easier since the paint will be kept moist and will not be sooo dry!

Could this be done on a plain white crib bed sheet?

At Hobby Lobby, I found textile medium. It says it will keep the paint color-fast on fabric. This is what you recommended, yes?

On lots of these kinds of things they say you must wash the fabric/garment before using the technique to remove sizing which will interfere with the permanence of the paint/ink/dyes. Have any of you found this necessary when using this technique--had any problems with the images after washing if you didn't wash it before painting/stamping?

Addendum to my previos post (#17) -- Also, if you wash the fabric/garment before using any painting/stamping technique, do NOT use any fabric softener on it before you do your work.

I have always washed and then ironed the fabric prior to stamping...
