I have seen a few shaker cards using the cello bag method as described in July's Stampin Success. I would love to know the specifics of how they do this technique, as I do not do well with the usual shaker card method.
I made a really cool one at a stamp camp about 5 years ago. I have the instructions for the card at home. The cello bag had a picture of snowmen on CS snuggly fit in it, we added a mixture of salt and dazzling diamonds (1:1) in front of the snowmen and mounted it with an oval frame on the front of sleeve that had a hot cocoa pack in it. Great for favors at Christmas parties. The sleeve is a lot like what I've seen on here to make favors with microwave popcorn bags. If anyone's interested, I will post the instructions tonight. If I can find the sample, I'll get my DH to help me upload my first card.
I will try to get it done ASAP. Got company from out of state, DH is on the road, holiday, etc., but I will. Just don't delete this subscription and you'll hear back from me.
These are seriously cute. I made about 50 for Christmas 2002 for the people in this big law firm I used to work at. I saved one for one of the young associates because I knew her sister was into SU. My boss showed her the one I had made for her and Shelly came flying to my cubicle, begging me to have one left for her. When I handed her the one I had saved just for her, she was quite happy. "Wait'll my sister gets a load of this!" LOL
I too am very anxious to see the instructions too!! I feel a bit "shaker card challenged" so maybe this will help. I have bought tons (well, at least ounces) of stuff to put in them!
You'll all be happy to know I found the instructions and the sample. DH is gone till tomorrow, so it'll probably be this weekend before I upload the picture of the card. Instructions are from Kathy Kurtz and her stamp camp at the YWCA in Spokane, WA, Fall of 2002. My comments are in ( ). Here goes with the instructions:
FLAKY FRIENDS CARD
For this project, you will need: 1/2 sheet of Lovely Lilac, 1/4 sheet of Almost Amethyst (on which Kathy had colluzzled an oval, 2 1/2" wide and 3 3/8" tall), Stamped Snowmen (on a piece of US white CS, 3x4", which she had already stamped for the camp with the 5 snowmen in mufflers and hats), blank 1/4 sheet of white CS (any old cheap scrap this big works fine), cello bag (small ones from SU, 3x5"), purple ribbon (24" of grosgrain) and cardboard pattern (5 1/2"x2 1/4"). (She had the salt and glitter already mixed in a plastic container, one part salt to one part dazzling diamonds glitter. Cheap glitter from any craft store works just as well if you're making a lot and the salt makes it go further. You'll also need a pack of hot chocolate mix, spiced apple cider, tea bags, whatever.)
Place cardboard pattern at each end of Lovely Lilac CS and score (she actually made a pattern for each packet! I'm sure you can just measure in 2 1/4" in from the ends and score it). Fold over, crease with bone folder and glue back edge, leaving top and bottom open (you've just made the sleeve). Stamp all over front using small snowflake in Lovely Lilac ink.
Carefully cut the edges of the oval cut into the Almost Amethyst CS, remove and discard (you've just made the frame for the shaker, but you can also buy the die cut frames from CS ). Stamp greeting at the top (or the bottom of your frame, I used Happy Holidays) and then add snowflakes all in Lovely Lilac. Set aside.
Color snowmen as shown (on the 3x4" piece of US white CS), using your blender pens and the medium of your choice (I used watercolor pencils, drew a pallet on some scrap paper and lifted the colors with the blender pens.) When finished, slide the snowmen all the way to the bottom of the cello bag. You may need to gently bend (or trim) the CS to fit (I'd make it fit snugly before I colored it, because you sure don't want it too small!) Pour 1 Tbs. (I used a tsp. on all the ones I made and it was plenty) of the glitter mixture into the FRONT part of the cello bag, trying not to get any down the back. Fold over the bag a couple of times and tape (securely) shut. (You now have your shaker bag! Snowmen in a shaker bag, how cool is that?)
Using doublestick tape, tape around the circle of Amethyst CS and place over snowmen in the cello bag. Using dimensionals, attach frame and cello bag to the front of your Lovely Lilac sleeve.
Using a 1/4" hole punch, punch a hole in the center top of the sleeve, going through both the front and the back (this will be hard to do as you also have your overlap on the back of the sleeve. I did one side at a time, matching up the holes). (Make sure the blank 1/4 piece of white CS fits down in your sleeve with a little space. Staple the top of a pack of hot chocolate to the top of the blank white CS.)
Thread the ribbon through the holes and even it up with the same amount on each side. There should be a lot of slack (12" on each side). (Here's the tricky but really cool part!) Slide the white 1/4 CS with hot chocolate on it down into the sleeve, pushing the ribbon evenly down with it. Tie a bow in the ribbon at the top of the sleeve. When you pull up on the bow, it will pull the CS and ribbon with it. (You don't have to untie the bow, either! Magic!) [I have since found out this is an "elevator" card! Cool!]
That's it. Kathy actually taught more than 30 ladies how to do this, along with a couple of other Christmas cards. I did this as the October project last Fall for my stamp club. I used two shades of SU blue CS, not the Lovely Lilac and Almost Amethyst that Kathy used. I didn't have Flaky Friends, so I used the small snowman and the 3 trees with stars from the Snowglobe set, making a tiny mask of the snowman so the trees would be behind him. When I made the 50 I took to work, I borrowed someone's Flaky Friends. I can't believe I colored 50 of them!
Wow, this is long. Block the directions (set your cursor at the beginning, hold down the shift key while hitting the down arrow till you're where you want to stop), hit control C to copy it, open up a blank page in your Word or Wordperfect document and hit control V to paste it. There, you'll have it to print and/or save. I'll post here when I've uploaded pictures of my sample.
I'm usually online all day at work if you have any questions. Have fun!
I have seen a few shaker cards using the cello bag method as described in July's Stampin Success. I would love to know the specifics of how they do this technique, as I do not do well with the usual shaker card method.
Doesn't it give dimensions and directions right in the newsletter itself?

I finally found my July SS buried under a pile. I thought the pattern was in the newsletter, but it just gives a brief overview. Anyhoo, It says demonstrators can access the pattern on the SU! demonstrator area of the site, via Communications>Stampin' Success !
It is a way cool way to make a shaker! HTH,

Actually, i've tried several times to get this pattern from the demo site but for some reason cannot get it. The other patterns available from this month's SS come up fine just not the shaker card pattern...of course the only one I want. It looks like it is one sheet of CS, scored into four & one piece cut out. Then after you adhere the bag you can fold thte other piece down to hide the bag. Will have to try it later (after I clean my stamp room..no room to stamp anything right now!!!)

Score the paper in half vertically and horizontally. Trim away one quadrant, use the one kitty corner from the one you trimmed off to create your window (use the 1 1/4" square punch and align and punch twice to make an approx. 1 1/4 x 2 1/2" size window).
Slip a stamped piece of card stock into a small cello bag, and shake some beads into it. Secure so image is visible through window. Then, depending on whether you want top or side folding card, fold down one of the flaps and secure it, and voil! Easy as pie shaker card!

DH helped me scan and upload my very first pics to SCS. They are in my gallery and pending approval. Jenn will get to them whenever she does. If you have any questions, give me a shout! Have a safe and sane Fourth. Fireworks of all kinds are readily available in FL and they are going off all over the place. At least we're good and soggy with all the rain!
Hi, I followed the instructions and now is there a substitute for the SU cello bag? LOL. I need a "quick fix" and have no patience to order and wait for the bags!
